Climb the mountain for you

“Climb the mountain not to plant your flag, but to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. Climb the mountain so you can see the world, not so the world can see you.”David McCullough

One of my mentors, Scott McGee, once asked me “What do you think your purpose is?”

I replied “I think it’s to inspire people”

He said “That’s cool, but what if you don’t inspire anyone? What if no one follows, reads or sees what you’re trying to show them? What then? Is what you’re doing a waste of time?”

I was stumped. To that point in time I had built my purpose around other peoples actions. The trap here being that when the purpose is built on others, it can all be taken away in a moment. Then what?

I had been trying to climb the mountain so the world looked at me.

That conversation gave me a chance to reframe my purpose – To pursue my own potential with strength.

Part of that journey is that I can share it along the way but that’s not the reasoning behind it. If this blog disappears, Instagram shuts down, and no one cares what I have to say, I will just keep on pursuing in whatever capacity I can.

My purpose is to embrace the challenge, enjoy the air and behold the view. My purpose is to gain greater perspective. The top of the mountain is just a by product.

  1. That is just the best, and I hope we all take the message out of this and be true to ourselves. I love the way you put these messages into words we can all read, because we all know that if these sorts of words were being said to us it wouldn’t have the same impact as reading them. Thank you
