What’s your code?

“It feels like a lot of the world is living without a code.”

What ever happened to everyone having a code? A set of values that they assessed every decision and action from.

A code that helped them as they went about their lives.

When we don’t have a code, we make poor decisions at best, and life is all about decisions.

Maybe it’s an ownership problem? If people have no code than they have nothing to hold themselves accountable to so nothing is their fault. Easy to shift the blame.

Maybe just no one ever recommended that they create one.

If that’s the case, count this as that recommendation.

Every single person needs one.

For me, it’s “Just that you do the right thing. The rest doesn’t matter.” That’s our family motto and the quote that rattles around my head more often than any other. This is the one I think of with any big decisions. If the answer isn’t clear against that, I also use my other values of Family, Curiosity, Emotional Intelligence, and Strength to come to the best decision.

Good luck and enjoy creating your code.
