Do the hard things

Do the hard things before the hard things are necessary.

It’s a sentiment that’s easily ignored, or even just flat out unknown, in relatively comfortable times, but then the big bang happens.

Our big bang is Covid-19 and if you haven’t trained yourself for a moment like this then you likely struggled a little more than some, with adapting to the new situation.

We regularly need a huge catalyst to make the choice that we are ready to change and sadly, in a comfortable world that catalyst can come quite late.

We have now been presented that catalyst a lot earlier than a lot of people would have liked and it presents the opportunity to now start to prepare for future events. We don’t have to wonder if we will ever need this kind of training, we now know with absolute certainty that we do.

The training I’m referring too- Resilience, grit, growth mindset, leadership, adaptability, character, strength, health- these all boil down to the ability to choose a better response in the face of adversity and these traits have an unlimited carry over to every single area of our lives and pursuits.

If you haven’t started these pursuits yet, don’t despair. There is an old Chinese proverb that says “The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”  So if you’re reading this right now, you are in the game. You get the chance to plant that tree right now. Plant it, water it,  it, tend to it, and love it. Immerse yourself in the process of growing that tree. It’s a long and dedicated road but the overarching law here is simple, you can not sit in the shade of a tree that you didn’t plant.

Don’t leave it too late for the next adversity.

Do the hard things before the hard things are necessary.

Pursue your potential
