Who I want to be

This is only a small milestone but a milestone none the less. I promised myself I would start hitting publish on an entry every single day and so far I am 5 from 5. It might seem small but this little 5 days in a row is the first time in 5 or so years since I started writing that I’ve been able to do it.

I have wanted to be someone who has a successful daily blog that has a large readership and a book deal in the pipeline blah blah blah for so long but I didn’t actually do anything. I wrote of course, I bloody love it, but I just wrote whenever something popped into my mind that forced me to sit down and delve into it. As you can see by the post history that’s very  undisciplined.

What changed?

I decided 5 days ago that I was going to do it, that I was going to sit down and hit publish every single day, no matter what. But…..It wasn’t just the decision, I’ve made that decision a few times now, it was the action that came after that decision.

I sat down and I wrote. Then the next night, I did it again, and again, and again, and here I am now, sitting ad typing into my laptop at 9:45pm and happy to be doing it. That’s what I haven’t been able to do before, turn my decision into action.

It’s funny how simple some of our dreams can be when we break them down to a very basic understanding. I just had to seriously envisage who I wanted to be. That person that I saw was someone who wrote every single day so the only way to become that person is to write every single day. It doesn’t matter if I have no readers at the moment because without this post right now, I can never be the person in the future that has a large readership. That’s not to say that by writing every day that I will automatically gain traction. I still have to evolve and learn and get better. But it definitely can’t happen if I don’t.

If you know what the person you want to be does every day, then do that today in whatever form you can. Don’t wait for time to pass or for the conditions to be right, they never will be. Start today and see where you end up. It might not be what you envisaged but I guarantee you will grow.

So here’s to future me, the person created by present me.

Pursue your potential

  1. Automatically hit follow after reading what you wrote here. Thanks for the inspiration! I am also trying to do it but I will start to publish a blog on a weekly basis and from there. I mean, you gotta start from somewhere, right? Congratulations on the motivation and I am happy that you are doing it. Thanks again!
