If you know me then you would be aware that I am a HUGE podcast fan. You would be hard pressed to find me without headphones on at most stages of the day.
I thought it might be time to share some of my favourite podcasts as most of them had some hand in inspiring me to start Inspired Lion and get to where I am now.
Hope you check some of these out (I listen to all of them on the Podcasts App on my iPhone but I believe they are also available for android) and get as much out of them as I have.
In no particular order:
1- Barbell Shrugged (Now known as The Shrugged Collective):
This was the first Strength and Conditioning podcast that I ever listened to and as such completely changed my listening habits from day one. It is also where I was first introduced to Chris Moore (Barbell Buddha) and he has been a pivotal part of my life since then. Barbell Shrugged, as of when I started listening, was 3 friends Chris Moore, Doug Larson and Mike Bledsoe with a rotating cast of co-hosts interviewing the best minds in the strength and conditioning world. With CTP behind the camera, their content was always first class and full of great wisdom in just about any subject you can imagine. The cast has changed a bit over the years and their latest change has been to bring multiple podcasts under their umbrella and provide way more than they themselves ever could. It’s a cool change and if you want to learn from the best guests in the field on a regular basis then I highly recommend starting with Shrugged. P.S don’t forget to go back into their archives because there is are some absolutely gems of episodes in the first few years.
2- Wodcast Podcast
These guys! This Podcast has been around for, I think, exactly the same amount of time as Shrugged so certainly counted as a CrossFit podcasting OG, they have a lot of great guests consistently but like to hit the funnier side of life with nuggets of wisdom added in. Wodcast is hosted by Eddie Ifft, a comedian/ CrossFit enthusiast, Scott McGee, a police officer and longtime CrossFitter, and Armen Hammer, a human history book on all things from competitive strength and fitness sports and great content creator. This is another podcast that led me to people that now hold a huge place in my life currently, Armen and Scott, sorry Eddie. You will laugh, you will learn and you will enjoy every moment with these guys and their guests so this podcast is another I highly recommend.
3- The Mind Muscle Project Podcast
If you are similar to me then you will really enjoy this one. Two young men from Sydney who own 3 gyms and an outstanding podcast that always has amazing guests and isn’t short on good banter. They have a great dynamic and are super knowledgeable in their field plus they also record some offshoot podcasts relating to Business (In the Black) and other aspects of the fitness industry (Aftershow) all of which come with subscribing. These guys have had some of the greatest minds in the field on as guests and their overseas podcasts tours are always a blast. My favourite few podcasts to date have probably all involved Brent Fikowski so be sure to check out those.
4- Power Athlete Radio
Self-proclaimed but probably worthy of the title, we have the Premier podcast in Strength & Conditioning-ing-ing-ing, listen and you’ll understand. Power Athlete is a Training and Nutrition (read: Meme) company founded by a former NFL payer John Welbourn and out of that the podcast was born. It is raw and very to the point but that’s what you will love about it. These guys know their stuff and it clearly shows. With his background in Elite sport and the contacts he built there and since, you really get spoiled for guest choice and information on this show.
This is by no means the only podcasts I listen to but the main ones I turn to regularly for S&C /Nutrition/ Fitness knowledge.
Other notable mentions:
– The Sisu Way: Scott McGee’s second entry on this list but probably the most important. This podcast is his journey of sharing the stories that matter, the stories from the heart. Not directly fitness related but will help you become a better person no doubt.
– Armen Hammer TV: If you like a tiny bit of fitness sprinkled into some shit talking and a whole lot of tv and movie reviews than this is the one for you. It is absolutely one of my favorite listens weekly.
– End of Three Fitness: Run by Jerrod Moon, Garage Gym Athlete guru. Cool guests and very science-y.
– Chasing Excellence: Run by Super Coach Ben Bergeron and great for the mental side of training.
– Froning & Friends: Can’t leave out the GOAT and his team of merry fitness-ers.
That will do for today but honestly there is still more. I’d personally like to thank all of these people for the amazing knowledge that they share weekly and I definitely recommend that you wrap your ears around some of it.
Stay knowledgeable
