Noticing greatness

I, like most of Australia, have spent the last month being captivated by the Matildas and what they have achieved.

As I watched the games, read the content, and embraced the journey that the Matildas have been on, I was reminded countless times that this is relatively new for these superstars.

That not that long ago they were playing in front of crowds of only hundreds of people and with little support.

In a post cup interview Sam Kerr reflected on how amazing the support was and that they would have played this world cup with one person in the crowd if that’s all that turned up.

But that’s not all that turned up.

Most of our country turned up.

We went to the games, or live sites, or organised watch parties with friends and family.

We got swept up in the hype and belief.

The Matildas didn’t do anything different to what they would have done, we just noticed the greatness.

We supported and cheered for the greatness.

We have been changed by it.

It got me thinking about what other greatness we may be missing in our lives because we haven’t noticed it?

In our friends, family members, work mates, or even ourselves?

Because as the Matildas have shown, greatness is right there… if we just take the time to look.
