Control the controllable

Tonight, in a local sports game, I let circumstances that are outside of my control affect me. Luckily, we still managed a win but I chose to act more poorly than I expect of myself.

I let officials decisions and opposing players actions affect my own mindset and that’s something that although disappoints me, presents me an opportunity for growth.

There’s really only one way to handle these types of scenarios and giving in to the emotions is nearly never the answer.

Breathe“Breathe. Inhale, nose only. Slow the exhale. Inhale, exhale, there it is.”

Focus – “Chin up. Where am I at? What’s the score? Where are we at? What’s the best play? What’s my body language saying?”

Control“Control the controllable. The other stuff doesn’t matter. Get the stop. Get the turnover. Make the pass. Move with energy and purpose. Be a great team mate. That’s how you get back in this.

What is inside my control is always more important than what is outside of it. I can’t affect change outside so I don’t need to spend much energy there. By moving my energy to the inside, I can impact the outcome with much greater success.
