“Why do you always insist on taking the hard road?” I replied, “Why do you assume I see two roads?”
I believe in the theory that there is only one way we develop mental toughness……Doing hard things.
The kind of hard things that force us to embrace discomfort, but purposefully, not stupidly. To keep pushing, prying, and stretching the limits of our capabilities. To learn the vital skill of doing the important work, especially when we have zero interest in it, because when you get to a point where no matter how you feel, you do the thing you know you need to, you’ve got the grit.
If you want to build the habit, pick something small and start pushing against the excuses every day. Keep pushing until you’ve mastered it. Keep pushing for as long as it takes. Then pick something else. Push against that. Repeat. Forever.
Comfort is killing us.
