It all matters

“It took me a long time to realise that it all matters. Not just in training but in life. Every single moment and action matters in the story of our lives. These moments and actions don’t have to be perfect, but purposeful is a good start.”

At the beginning of my big shift, that’s what I’m calling the moment that I started acting more purposefully, it was all about fitness. It wasn’t even really about health, just looking better at the start. I think that’s probably how a lot of people’s journeys start.

That’s one of the cool things about the journey to better health or body, once we start realising that with purposeful actions, we can effect quite a bit of change physically, we start to look at other areas that we can transfer this pursuit to.

I mean it makes sense right? In training we don’t often do things for no reason. Most things we do there have a point and a goal outcome. Warm up so we are ready for the workout. Run a little bit further this week so I am fitter next week. Add a little more weight to the bar so I am stronger next week. De load this week so I’m in great condition for my competition.

Was I applying this progression to my life?

Maybe in a way but certainly not structured or with much purpose.

For a while I thought that I just had to read the next few books or listen to the next great podcast and I would crest the mountain of having it all figured out. Wrong. What I did learn is that the pursuit is eternal. Don’t let this get you down. That’s the beauty of it. There is always something more to learn, master and add to your skill set.

I don’t look at my strength or fitness training as having an end goal, it will be a lifetime pursuit. So to will my pursuit of character, mindset and leadership.

And yeah….it’s hard, but the alternative is a roller-coaster ride of someone else’s design and I’m just along for the ride.

I might not be able to build my own, but I can least grab hold of some of the handles and apply pressure when needed.
