Dice’s Corner

Busy, busy, busy……. img_2248

I’ll start with a shoutout to my amazing wife, Amy. Watching her stay active and continue to attack her goals with such determination during this pregnancy has been an absolute inspiration. I have definitely got a newfound respect for all pregnant women and the unique obstacles they face daily. At this writing she is 38 weeks and although the weights may be lighter and movement slower and more awkward, she utterly amazes me with what she still achieves!!

Since the last post I completed the Spartan Lunges for a Cause and what a fun little event that was. It was great to receive a massive amount of support from our little town with participants, sponsors and spectators all digging deep and helping out in one way or another. What can I say about the challenge itself, it hurt…..alot! If you didn’t already know it was 1km of Lunges and 300 Burpees, completed between 2 markers 21m apart. Starting at one end we lunged 21m down and 21m back finishing with an ascending ladder of burpees starting at 1 all the way to 24. Lap 1-1 burpee, lap 2-2 burpees etc. The first few laps felt quite easy and having a large group around made it a lot of fun. I’m not sure about the other participants but I found that once my legs became a bit numb to the lunges that they were bearable, but the burpees were another story. They really spiked the heart rate and taxed my arms more than I had expected. Fair to say that the last few sets of burpees weren’t pretty and I have to thank my friends that continued to encourage me through those tough ones at the end. The event was a fundraiser for White Ribbon and the Unite Project who aim to bring an end to domestic violence and youth homelessness respectively. Every time I felt like I was starting to struggle a bit I found myself trying to imagine the struggle and pain some of these people find themselves in daily and my little bit of quad or arm pain just didn’t seem so bad. All in all it was a great day and something I am proud to have completed and helped raise money for 2 extremely worthy charities.

If you would like to donate or know more about these 2, you can find info at their sites www.whiteribbon.org.au/ and http://theuniteproject.org

Other than that my training has been extremely interrupted over the last 2 months since the lunges. I spent a week recovering from the lunges only to fall sick for another week and then tweak my back again, causing another week or so of modified workouts. I have finally found my rhythm again as of last week and look forward to pushing hard into some fun events next year. Spartan Race has released their 2017 race schedule and it looks GREAT! 2017 is definitely the year I am going to achieve my first Trifecta. The 2017 CrossFit Open is also another large goal of mine and Amy has currently set herself the goal of the Tough Mudder Half in May as her return event all going well post partum.

Quote of the Week

“I begin with humility, I act with humility, I end with humility. Humility leads to clarity. Humility leads to an open mind and a forgiving heart. With an open mind and a forgiving heart, I see every person as superior to me in some way; with every person as my teacher, I grow in wisdom. As I grow in wisdom, humility becomes ever more my guide. I begin with humility, I act with humility, I end with humility.”

Book/ Audio Book/ Podcast –

I am currently listening to Michael Phelps autobiography ‘Beneath the Surface’

I will talk more about this once I’ve finished but I am really enjoying it so far.

Other than this one of my mentors, Chris Moore, who passed away earlier this year has had his entire published and unpublished writings brought together in one hardcover. It can be found at( http://www.barbellbuddha.com) and I can’t recommend his work enough to anyone who is interested in straight up becoming a better human being!

From the website:

This collected work, a handsomely-produced hardcover of over 500 pages, is a testament to a powerful and meaningful life lived passionately, with integrity and modesty.

It includes all the published and unpublished writing on the subjects of spiritual, mental and physical health, expressed in the characteristic engaging and witty style that Chris became loved for by his countless readers.

It is an inspiration to all who seek to improve their lives and the lives of others.

We believe it will be a classic of its kind, and treasured for years to come.

Amy’s Corner –

With one week, six days to go (but who’s counting) till “baby go time” (at least I am hoping) things here have changed somewhat. Last time I wrote, I spoke of things slowing down and getting lighter. This has definitely ramped up at lot in the last week or so. I’m slower and need rests regularly and my belly appears to be getting in the way of EVERYTHING. Any bending from the hip has to be done with precision and a wider stance. Which means I’ve had to make some more modifications to my workouts. Mainly exercises that don’t involve/limit the angle of the hip bend. Some ways that I have tried to manage this is to set things up a little higher (on top of plyo boxes, or on top of stacked weights). But there is always a way around the problem. Things can easily be modified and adjusted to suit anybody’s needs and abilities. The only thing that can stop you is your own motivation, so don’t get in your own way!

Coming Up –

I will be competing in the CrossFit Lift Off online weightlifting comp next week. With my interrupted training my numbers are well down but I’m going to use the event as a little kick starter into my next few. The comp has 3 events including a 1 rep max snatch, 1 rep max Clean & Jerk and a traditional workout to finish. You can find details at http://www.crossfit.com

Other than that I will most likely compete in the upcoming box fit champs (www.boxfitchamps.com.au) and will get ready for my first Spartan Race of 2017 in Feb at the Gold Coast.

Anyone who knows me well knows that every year I participate in Movember and this year’s no different. Much to Amy’s dismay I have modelled Josh Bridge’s games stache this year and it’s glorious (well I think so anyway) If you are interested in donating or participating yourself, head on over to http://mobro.co/adyson img_2411

That’s it for this week folks.
