Once again everyone, sorry for the lack of posts. I seem to spend more time apologising than actually writing lately. No excuses, just hasn’t happened. I think I over committed to a in depth blog weekly so I’m going to try something new. Every week I’m going to write a ‘From the Den’ with some short points, a favourite quote, maybe my current book or audio book, a recap on the current P.A.W (Pride Active Workout) and anything else myself or Amy would like to add in.
Something Current –
As some of you may be aware, one of the current social media trends is the posting of mental health awareness posts. Coming mainly in the form of the 22 push ups a day challenge for PTSD awareness with our returned vets, and the #itsokaytotalk or #itaintweaktospeak campaign aiming towards the fact that suicide is the biggest killer of men aged under 45. I just wanted to say how amazing it is to see soo many people willing, even as small as a social media post, to help spread and share awareness for a subject that has been taboo for too long. It seems as if help has never been so accessible for someone who genuinely needs it with the multiple foundations around now. So good work everyone on helping shine the light on such a dark and terrible illness.
And for anyone who reads this now or in the future and finds themselves in such a situation, never forget that no matter how bad it seems that you are worth so much more than you can imagine. You are someones entire world, their inspiration, their son, daughter, sibling or parent. You are a valued employee or a beloved leader. You are the absolute love of someones life! You are a fire just waiting to rage hot so don’t put out that fire before it has time to warm someones heart! Don’t extinguish that flame before it has a chance to touch the countless people that you will inevitably have an influence on in your lifetime!

Quote of the Week –
” Of all the virtues we can learn, no trait is more useful, more essential for survival, and more likely to improve the quality of life than the ability to transform adversity into an enjoyable challenge.”
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
Book/ Audio Book –
The Way of the Peaceful Warrior by Dan Millman
During his junior year at the University of California, while training to become a world-champion gymnast, Dan Millman stumbled on a 94-year-old mentor nicknamed Socrates, a powerful, unpredictable, and elusive character. He taught a way to maximize performance using a unique blend of Eastern philosophy and Western fitness to cultivate the true essence of a champion – the “way of the peaceful warrior.” Millman’s first-person account of his odyssey into realms of light, darkness, mind, body, and spirit has since become an international bestseller about the universal quest for happiness.
I first heard about this book as a recommendation from Scott McGee on the WODCast Podcast and got the audio version immediately. If you don’t mind that the facts are intertwined with some fiction, there are some absolute gems of wisdom to be taken and applied to your own life. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and will definitely have it on my go to list!
P.A.W (Pride Active Workout)–
Myself, some friends and family all completed the Spartan Race Sprint in Brisbane yesterday so there wasn’t much on my schedule this Sunday. Apart from a short Air Bike workout for some active recovery, I just hit some yoga to help these tired muscles.
So this week find a yoga program, video or a local class and enjoy an hour or so of magic 🙂
I personally use ROMWOD ( https://romwod.com) daily and would recommend it to anyone. ROMWOD offers a daily guided yoga program, mixed with a bit of mindfulness and breathing work, and I start everyday with it. I believe they have a 7 day free trial so if you want definitely check it out!

Amy’s Corner –
As things are getting ‘bigger’ and ‘slower’ I’ve had to do some serious scaling of workouts as I get deeper into my third trimester. My emphasis on workouts lately has been maintaining my muscle tone, to help prepare me for the future, and of course “labour”! This means I’ve swapped the barbell for dumbbells, kettle bells, and body weight exercises. But don’t be fooled, these can still pack a punch. An advantage of this is the freedom to work out in a small space, or anywhere at all with minimal equipment. I’m also doing regular pregnancy yoga. If you are going to do anything through pregnancy…definitely do yoga! (with clearance from a medical professional) Such a great tool for strength and flexibility, and you finish up feeling fresh and empowered.
On another note, I would like to say a MASSIVE well done to all those who took part in the Spartan Sprint Race over the weekend. I obviously did not compete, and I started off being happy not to put my body through the hard slog. But as I sat, watched, walked around, photographed The Pride Active Team I became a little disappointed that I was not apart of the crew like normal. My body did wake up in a much better way this morning than the rest of team though I’m sure. But just be warned, we are going to have to do it all again next year!
Anyway that’s it from me this week. Enjoy everyday!
Amy
